Review of the Film "Revolution"

"Revolution" is a good source of accurate information on the time of the American revolution. This is not to say however that the movie was well done. The battle scenes in the movie were very historical accurate. The economic situation of the Americans in the revolutionary times was also well depicted. The actors, director and composer did a horrible job on this film.
The movie, "Revolution", was based around the character of Tom Dobbs played by Al Pacino. He was forced into the Revolutionary War when his son Ned Dobbs enlisted. Tom soon met with his love interest in the film Daisy McConnahay. Daisy was a devoted supporter of the revolution. She was from a rich family that sided with the British and this forced her from he home. Daisy’s family had wealth whereas Tom had nothing but his son. Tom and Ned fight in the Revolutionary War. They soon flee from the army much to the dismay of Daisy. Tom is picked on by a British officer named Peasy. While Daisy is supplying the American troops she is attacked by Peasy and Tom watches as she is struck down from afar. After the war Tom meets with Daisy again and the fall in love. Tom’s character was fairly well acted by Al Pacino. Ned, however was poorly cast for his part. The British officer Peasy was the most memorable character from the movie with his nasal voice. The music from the movie never fit the images on the screen. The end where Tom is looking for Daisy sounds wrong for the most tender moment in the film.
This film was very historically accurate. The battle scenes in particular were accurate. They showed just how disciplined the British army was. They walked calmly standing up toward and enemy firing upon them. When the British got close enough to the Americans they locked their bayonets and charged. This was very accurate of the way the British fought at this time. The textbook told of how the Americans had almost no knowledge of fighting. This was backed up by the scene in where Tom cannot attach his bayonet.
The economics of this film were very well shown. Tom was like many Americans. He was poor and he went into the war in order to earn a living. Zinn spoke of this being the reason most men joined the army. Tom’s situation was shown to be common of many men because he is often shown with the majority. He is right alongside dozens of other as they argue over what is owed to them. Tom is also show in the majority when he is shown fighting with thousands of men in his position when he is fighting. The McConnahay family is show to be the exception. The are quite a wealthy family. The father of Daisy is a war profiteer, spoke of in the textbook. The McConnahay’s a shown the be the minority of the population because they are never show with other families of there class.
This movie was a very good way to study American history at the time of the Revolution. The film was very historical accurate throughout the entire film. My only objection to this movie was the poor quality of actors. Also, the director never made me care about any of the characters. This movie is a good way to learn about the American Revolution.
